GENERAL DANCE ETIQUETTE
________________________________________________________________________________________________________
In the dance world there are a number of norms and general etiquette standards which we at The Dance Project would like to uphold.
The key ones are highlighted below:
- All dancers to arrive 5-10 minutes before their class starts to get dressed and warm-up and focus.
- All modern jazz and contemporary classes tight fitting
Correct dress code for each dance discipline.
leggings/cycling pants/jazz pants. With a leotard/JT
- All tap classes Jazz pants –NOT UNDER THE FEET-
Leotards/JT and tap shoes.
- All Hip Hop classes loose pants/T shirts/takkies.
- Class and rehearsal are work places so long hair needs to be tied away from the face at all times. Shows may require loose hair.
- If you are unable to attend a class or rehearsal please advise via sms
- All cellphones on silent during class or rehearsal
- No casual chatting during all classes
- Should you not be working at 100% level because you are sick, please advise the teacher before class starts
- Parents needing to speak to us please make an arrangement after class and not during class.
- We ask you to be as punctual as possible when picking up your child from dancing.
- ALL STUDENTS TO BE ENCOURAGING AND SUPPORTIVE OF EACH OTHER.
We ask that we all adhere to these guidelines as it leads to focus being maintained and the quality of work produced being of a high standard.
Thank you for your co-operation.

Hello to you all
What is it about this time of the year where it feels like time and the world are spinning faster and faster?
We are two weeks into November and already we need to prepare for all our end of year activities.
Before we give you details of these events let’s stop to congratulate our fantastic team who represented us so well at this year’s Grand West Hip Hop competition. We had lots of places, taking away 1sts, 2nds and 3rds and nearly all our small groups received trophies.
For a studio who only meets once a week for Hip Hop AND we concentrate on other dance styles at the same time, we think you did VERY well and we are VERY proud of you all.
Competitive work is not for everyone and we need to always come away from these events having learnt something about ourselves. For those of you who are back into class again our BIG thing is POWER PERFORMANCE. This vital aspect of dance is essential not only for competitive work but also for stage work ---so we are on a mission at the moment ---and will be for a while—on POWER, FOCUS and BIG PERFORMANCE.
All the skills we learn in dancing are built up, practiced and tried out over time BUT, the most important place to master these skills is in the class. REGULAR FOCUSED CLASSES ARE VITAL to ensure that the final performance is dynamic. So please make sure that you are at classes every week and giving it your all. We are back to normal times.
Here is a rundown of what’s coming up to close off 2010:
- SATURDAY 27 November is HIP HOP DAY at TDP. We’ve attached the flyer so you have all the details. It’s a different day with guest teachers, refreshments for sale and new skills to be learnt. TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS ABOUT IT. Prices and times are on the flyer.
- Our annual awards ceremony, Take A Bow 2010, takes place on December 19 at The Masque Theatre in Muizenberg. We would like to explain the aims of this exciting event:
- SO TAKE A BOW 2010 takes place on 19 December at The Masque theatre Muizenberg. The lists of nominees will be up on the door by 27 November and from here you can see which performance your son or daughter will be getting their award. You then can book your tickets for that performance. We do it this way as we can’t fit everyone in otherwise. FIRST PERFORMANCE is at 3 p.m. and SECOND PERFORMANCE at 6.30 p.m. The show lasts approx 2 hours and the tickets are only R50. ON SALE from 27 November from Janine.
- By now you would have received an sms about orders for TDP tracksuits. The lady has been in to help with fittings and we are looking at taking more orders this Saturday. There is a 50% deposit payable on ordering and the rest payable on delivery, which will be round about 11 December.
- As we focus on performance and don’t do official testing in our training programme, we felt the need to find an opportunity to showcase a selection of pieces of choreography from the year in one event.
- At the same time as you, the audience, being able to view these pieces it is our time to give the public recognition to the team who have worked so hard through the year. To be able to honour them with certificates in front of their friends and family and to thank them for their dedication to TDP.
Wow we needed to catch up on such a lot. Please don’t hesitate to phone if you have questions.
